June 12, 2013. TiconÂdeÂroÂga, NY.
James CawÂley, ExeÂcuÂtiÂve ProÂduÂcer of the interÂnet web hit, Star Trek PhaÂse II, today announÂced that forÂmer Star Trek scripter, David GerÂrold will be joiÂning the proÂducÂtion team as »show-runÂner«.»We are very exciÂted to have David joiÂning our team«, CawÂley said. »He knows Star Trek, he knows sciÂence ficÂtion, and he’s a greÂat proÂduÂcer. He has the right visiÂon for the show.«
GerÂrold is the Hugo and NebuÂla award-winÂning autÂhor of The MarÂtiÂan Child, The War Against The Chtorr, JumÂping Off The PlaÂnet, The Man Who FoldÂed HimsÂelf, and other sciÂence ficÂtion best-selÂlers. He wroÂte one of Star Trek’s most popuÂlar epiÂsoÂdes, The TrouÂble With Tribbles, while still in colÂlege. SinÂce then GerÂrold has writÂten scripts for Star Trek AniÂmaÂted, TwiÂlight Zone, BabyÂlon 5, Land Of The Lost, Sliders, Tales From The DarksÂide, and other hit sci-fi shows. He also wroÂte and direcÂted PhaÂse II’s first two-part epiÂsoÂde, the conÂtroÂverÂsiÂal »Blood And Fire«.
JoiÂning CawÂley, GerÂrold said, »The PhaÂse II team is one of the best teams I’ve ever had the priÂviÂleÂge of working with. This isn’t a job, it’s a pasÂsiÂon. The enthuÂsiÂasm of this cast crew is inspiÂring, and the overÂall level of proÂfesÂsioÂnaÂlism means we’ll be able to make epiÂsoÂdes that live up to the visiÂon of the oriÂgiÂnal series.«
He added, “Star Trek is uniÂque among sciÂence ficÂtion shows. At its very best, it’s about disÂcoÂveÂring what it means to be a human being in a vast and comÂplex uniÂverÂse. Star Trek represÂents the conÂtiÂnuing challÂenge that humaÂniÂty will face in the future – to be the very best we can be. Who wouldn’t be inspiÂred by that?”
Star Trek PhaÂse II is currÂentÂly filmÂing »The Holiest Thing,« direcÂted by Daren DochÂterÂman. New epiÂsoÂdes are alreÂaÂdy in the planÂning stages, but GerÂrold and CawÂley both decliÂned to elaÂboÂraÂte. »We don’t want to spoil the surÂpriÂse.«
Cool!
