Horror Writer’s Association verkündet »Lebenswerk«-Preisträger

Die ame­ri­ka­ni­sche Hor­ror Writer’s Asso­cia­ti­on, die vom 12.- 14. Juni in Bur­bank die dies­jäh­ri­gen Bram Sto­ker Awards ver­gibt, hat einen Vor­gu­cker ver­öf­fent­licht.

Für ihr Lebens­werk wer­den Chel­sea Quinn Yar­bro und F. Paul Wil­son aus­ge­zeich­net. Yar­bo wur­de bekannt durch ihren Vam­pir-Hel­den Graf Saint-Ger­main. Sie ist die ers­te Frau, die den »Living Legend Award« der Inter­na­tio­nal Hor­ror Guild erhielt, wei­ter­hin war sie der ers­te weib­li­che Prä­si­dent der Hor­ror Writer’s Asso­cia­ti­on. Yar­bros Roma­nen schreibt man zu, den Grund­stein für die der­zei­ti­ge Wel­le an »Para­nor­mal Romance«-Romanen (im Deut­schen »Roman­t­a­sy« genannt) und für gen­re­über­grei­fen­de Fik­ti­on gelegt zu haben.
Wil­son kennt man haupt­säch­lich durch sei­ne REPAIRMAN JACK-Erzäh­lun­gen, die aber nur einen Teil sei­nes Buch­port­fo­li­os dar­stel­len, die­ses beträgt über 40 Roma­ne. Auch er hat bereits meh­re­re Gen­re­prei­se gewon­nen.

Der »Life­time Achie­ve­ment Award« ist der pres­ti­ge­träch­tigs­te der Prei­se beim Bram Sto­ker Award, zu den Peis­trä­gern gehör­ten unter ande­rem Ste­phen King, Anne Rice, Joy­ce Carol Oates, Ray Brad­bu­ry und Peter Straub. Sie wer­den als Aner­ken­nung für über­ra­gen­de Erfol­ge nicht ein­zel­ner Wer­ke son­dern einer gesam­ten Kar­rie­re ver­ge­ben. Preis­trä­ger müs­sen einen pro­fun­den posi­ti­ven Ein­fluß auf die Gen­res Hor­ror und Dark Fan­ta­sy gehabt haben und ent­we­der min­des­tens 60 Jah­re alt sein, oder seit wenigs­tens 35 Jah­ren im Gen­re publi­zie­ren.
