STAR WARS — THE OLD REPUBLIC: Start vorverlegt!

Ursprünglich war geplant, BioWares und LucasArts neues MMO im STAR WARS–Universum mit dem Titel THE OLD REPUBLIC in Europa am 22.12.2011 zu launchen, zwei Tage später als in den USA. Dass das hierzulande nicht eben gnädig aufgenommen wurde, kann man sich vorstellen. Die Proteste müssen massiv gewesen sein, anders kann ich mir nicht erklären, dass man sich nun anders besonnen hat und das Spiel am selben Termin wie in Amerika startet, also am 20.12.2011.

Nachteilig ist daran natürlich zumindest für die arbeitende Bevölkerung, dass der Launch damit an einem Wochenanfang stattfindet. Harcore-Fans dürften sich frei nehmen, das könnte für Personen, die in »weihnachtsabhängigen« Jobs tätig sind allerings aufgrund der üblicherweise verhängten Urlaubssperren nicht helfen. Und man kann auch davon ausgehen, dass mancher Weihnachtsbaum möglicherweise verwaist herum stehen könnte und dafür Blastergeräusche aus nahe liegenden Räumen dringen… ;o)
Ebenfalls wenig besinnlich dürften die Feiertage für Suppoprt und Technik des Spiels werden…

Nach wie vor unklar ist, wann der Headstart für Vorbesteller des Spiel beginnen wird, ich würde mal ca. eine Woche vor dem offiziellen Start schätzen…

STAR WARS — THE OLD REPUBLIC nicht vor April 2011

Bioware hatte als potentiellen Release-Termin für das neue STAR WARS–MMO THE OLD REPUBLIC immer etwas vage »Frühjahr 2011″ angegeben. Gamasutra meldet nun, dass der Electronic Arts CFO Eric Brown bestätigt hat, dass der Launch im fiskalischen Jahr 2012 stattfinden wird, das geht vom April bis Dezember 2011 (fragt mich bitte nicht… wer wissen möchte, warum das so gerechnet wird, fragt bitte einen Wirtschaftsexperten oder bei EA nach).

Allenthalben wird deswegen nun spekuliert, dass TOR im April 2011 erscheinen wird. Das mag sein, man kann davon ausgehen, dass das Timing des Launch deswegen so geschah, um Electronic Arts gute Zahlen eben im fiskalischen Jahr 2012 zu verschaffen.

Allerdings ist es eben auch immer noch möglich, dass sich der Start verschiebt, ich gehe nicht davon aus, dass Bioware und LucasArts ein massiv unfertiges oder verbuggtes Produkt auf den Markt bringen werden (Probleme gibt es bei MMO-Starts natürlich immer…). Was ich im August auf der GamesCom gesehen habe, sah jedoch schon recht vielversprechend aus.

[E3] Anfangs hieß es: beim neuen STAR WARS MMOG von LucasArts und BioWare könne man nur über Planeten laufen aber keine Raumschiffe fliegen. Jetzt wird ein Video vorgestellt, in dem BioWare zwei Spielerschiffe zeigt, eine corellianische Jedi-Korvette und einen Sith-Transporter. Beide sind offensichtlich voll begehbar, da kann sich Cryptic mit seiner STAR TREK ONLINE-Lachnummer eigentlich nur weinend abwenden. :o)

[E3] und noch ein beeindruckender cinematischer Trailer aus dem STAR WARS-Universum, diesmal zum Massive Multiplayer-Spiel THE OLD REPUBLIC.
Sith-Truppen greifen Alderaan an und nur eine kleine Elitetruppe der Republik, die Havoc-Squad, kann sich ihnen noch entgegen stellen.

[E3] LucasArt hat wieder einmal herumgerendert, dabei herausgekommen ist ein filmreifer CGI-Trailer für den zweiten Teil des Lichtschwert-Schwinger-Spiels THE FORCE UNLEASHED. Man sollte sich dringend die HD-Version auf GameTrailers.com ansehen.

CLONE WARS ADVENTURES

…unter diesem Titel stellen LucasArts und Sony Online Entertainment im Herbst diesen Jahres ein »kindgerechtes« MMO vor, dass auf dem Film und der Trickserie gleichen Namens basiert. Offenbar im Stile des 2009 gestarteten und ebenfalls sehr erfolgreichen FreeRealms soll hier insbesondere Kindern und Jugendlichen ein free-to-play MMO geboten werden. Selbstverständlich wird es aber auch eine bezahlte Premium-Mitgliedschaft geben und selbstverständlich gibt es auch die Möglichkeit, über Micro-Transactions Goodies gegen harte Dollars zu erwerben (was daran »kindgerecht« sein soll, will sich mir allerdings nicht erschließen).

Neben der Möglichkeit mit dem Charakter durch die Spielwelt zu laufen, soll man auch Raumschiffe oder Fahrzeuge wie Speederbikes nutzen können, zudem will man zahllose Minispiele einbauen, darunter auch etwas wie ein Trading Card Game. Ebenfalls möglich ist das Programmieren von Robotern.

Na denn… Ich muss zugeben, dass mich CLONE WARS aufgrund des Stils der Animation so gar nicht reizt, aber ich bin ja offensichtlich auch nicht die Zielgruppe… :o)

MONKEY ISLAND 2 — Special Edition

Frisch von der Game Developers Conference:

Vor einiger Zeit erfreute LucasArts nicht wenige Fans, als man den Klassiker THE SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND in einer grafisch überarbeiteten Version (welche auch die alte Fassung enthielt) für kleines Geld auf den Markt brachte.

Und fast schneller als man »Hinter dir! Ein dreiköpfiger Affe!« sagen konnte, wird es auch den zweiten Teil der humorigen Piratenhatz namens LECHUCK´S REVENGE in einer Special Edition zum nochmal spielen oder neu entdecken geben: Man nennt den Sommer 2010 als Erscheinungstermin.
Beim Prinzip hält man sich an die Neuauflage des ersten Teils: Modernisierte Grafiken und leicht modifizierte Steuerung, ebenfalls wird man wieder zur Klassik-Grafik umschalten können. Zudem gibt es aber erweiterte Features: Neben der Tatsache, dass man sich beim Aussehen enger am Original orientieren will (insbesondere in Sachen Guybrush, bei dem monierten die Spieler im ersten Teil der SE, er sei zu »cartoony«), soll es Audiokommentare der Entwickler ebenso geben, wie bislang unveröffentlichtes Artwork aus dem Original. Außerdem gibt man bei LucasArts an, zusätzlich zur Maussteuerung eine alternative Möglichkeit zu bieten, um Guybrush über die Inseln zu jagen, das erscheint auch nötig, wenn man sich die Plattformen ansieht:

LECHUCK´S REVENGE wird erscheinen für Windows-PC, Playstation 3 (über das Playstation Network), Xbox Live Arcade, iPhone und iPod touch — und damit wohl auch für Apples iPad.

Mir bleibt nichts zu sagen außer: HOORAY!

STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC im Frühjahr 2011?

Bisher hatten LucasArts, Bioware und Electronic Arts aus dem Releasetermins ihres neuen MMORPGs ein Geheimnis gemacht — wie man das in der Branche gern tut. Jetzt ist allerdings EA-Chef John Riccitiello etwas »herausgerutscht«, ob es sich dabei um ein Versehen handelt oder Absicht darf jeder für sich selbst entscheiden.
Im Zusammenhang mit einer Gewinnwarnung sagte Riccitiello: »Ein Schlüsselfaktor ist die Veröffentlichung unseres wichtigsten MMO. So wie es jetzt aussieht, macht das Spiel große Fortschritte in Richtung eines Starts im Frühjahr 2011.« Der Name SW:TOR fiel zwar nicht, aber ansonsten wird — soweit bekannt — derzeit bei EA kein anderes MMO produziert, deswegen liegt der Schluß nahe. Das Spiel entsteht momentan bei Bioware.

Angesichts der vor Analysten ausgesprochenen Gewinnwarnung in deren Rahmen Riccitiello die Umsatzprognose deutlich nach unten korrigierte, würde ich allerdings annehmen, dass der Hinweis so zufällig nicht war…
