Horror Writer’s Association verkündet »Lebenswerk«-Preisträger

bram stoker awardDie ame­ri­ka­ni­sche Hor­ror Writer’s As­so­cia­tion, die vom 12.- 14. Juni in Bur­bank die dies­jäh­ri­gen Bram Sto­ker Awards ver­gibt, hat ei­nen Vor­gu­cker ver­öf­fent­licht.

Für ihr Le­bens­werk wer­den Chel­sea Quinn Yar­bro und F. Paul Wil­son aus­ge­zeich­net. Yarbo wurde be­kannt durch ih­ren Vampir-Helden Graf Saint-Germain. Sie ist die erste Frau, die den »Li­ving Le­gend Award« der In­ter­na­tio­nal Hor­ror Guild er­hielt, wei­ter­hin war sie der erste weib­li­che Prä­si­dent der Hor­ror Writer’s As­so­cia­tion. Yar­bros Ro­ma­nen schreibt man zu, den Grund­stein für die der­zei­tige Welle an »Pa­ranor­mal Romance«-Romanen (im Deut­schen »Ro­man­tasy« ge­nannt) und für gen­re­über­grei­fende Fik­tion ge­legt zu ha­ben.
Wil­son kennt man haupt­säch­lich durch seine RE­PAIR­MAN JACK-Erzählungen, die aber nur ei­nen Teil sei­nes Buch­port­fo­lios dar­stel­len, die­ses be­trägt über 40 Ro­mane. Auch er hat be­reits meh­rere Gen­re­preise ge­won­nen.

Der »Life­time Achie­ve­ment Award« ist der pres­ti­ge­träch­tigste der Preise beim Bram Sto­ker Award, zu den Peis­trä­gern ge­hör­ten un­ter an­de­rem Ste­phen King, Anne Rice, Joyce Ca­rol Oa­tes, Ray Brad­bury und Pe­ter Straub. Sie wer­den als An­er­ken­nung für über­ra­gende Er­folge nicht ein­zel­ner Werke son­dern ei­ner ge­sam­ten Kar­riere ver­ge­ben. Preis­trä­ger müs­sen ei­nen pro­fun­den po­si­ti­ven Ein­fluß auf die Gen­res Hor­ror und Dark Fan­tasy ge­habt ha­ben und ent­we­der min­des­tens 60 Jahre alt sein, oder seit we­nigs­tens 35 Jah­ren im Genre pu­bli­zie­ren.
